Theory: Formation of Hydrocarbon (HC) reservoirs, properties of porous medium, permeability, Darcy’s law for flow in porous media, flow on reclining porous media, methods of core sampling in underground reservoirs, alterations induced by the sampling; measurements, flow systems in reservoirs; flow of incompressible, partially compressible and compressible fluids, time dependence, flow in layers in series and in parallel, radial flows, Darcy’s law (differential form - diffusion equation) in linear and radial flow for (partially) compressible fluids; efficiency index of the bore hole, flushing of the porous medium with water, interfacial tension between fluids, capillary pressures, wettability of the medium, relative permeabilities, distribution of the fluids in HC zones, analysis of pressure measurements in underground reservoirs.

Laboratory exercises: Measurements of: active porosity; permeability; remaining saturated water; Hg porosimetry.
